Living in False Hope?
If you're a conservative, you'll find John Derbyshire's piece at NRO to be quite disturbing; especially in light of the fact that the left is spiraling downward at warp speeds. That being so, you'd think the conservative republicans would really be making historical hay. But unfortunately, the republicans aren't very conservative.
The dems have been deadheading to the far left at break neck speeds since the Clinton administration. They have since found themselves splattered like bugs all over the socialist windshield which prevents them from being full blown commies. That would be a good thing for republicans in normal times, but the times, they've been a changin'.
As the left have veered even further left, the republicans, too, have veered to the left. Way too many of them are now left of center (they're called moderates) and the rest of them pretty much hover near the middle (they're the so-called conservatives). Which must be why they don't seem to be in a hurry to take advantage of their majority status in Congress. They persist in acting like they are not yet in charge.
Be sure to read Darbyshire's piece to see the sorry state of conservative affairs.
