Today's Essential Reading
Colorado Rep. Thomas Tancredo has been doing yeoman's work on the illegal immigration problem for some time now; long before it was reasonably acceptable to do so. His impassioned effort hasn't scored him any points with the White House and he once remarked he wasn't welcome there. Still, he heroically leads on to drive home the importance of curbing the destructive, illegal immigration problem. This Land Is Whose Land? is one of today's "must read" pieces.
The American Thinker has an important piece on the problems extant in the EU. All is not well there and the problems are directly due to the lack of freedoms which we have enjoyed here in the USA. European-style elitist rule isn't making it, as James Lewis' piece points out.
On a somewhat related issue; the left-of-center, hopeful theory that "Europe is trending upward and the US is in decline," is substantively countered by Victor Davis Hanson, in his piece, Talk of the US decline is premature. Upbeat!
Two good pieces on the fiasco that is the UN are here and here.
