Daunting Competition for Government Schools
Human Events Online posted an excellent piece on home schooling this past Thursday, August 11th titled Home Schoolers are Challenging the Education Monopoly.
As a proud home school dad whose kids are successfully matriculating in two of Dallas' finest Universities (SMU and UT Arlington), with generous academic scholarships, I'm heartened by the continuing popularity of the home school movement. It has grown exponentially since we began home schooling in the early '80's. With the advent of the internet and growing number of curriculums, parents are not nearly as limited as home schoolers of the past. The many support groups, clubs, associations and sports leagues available now, especially in large cities, provide unlimited options and opportunities for today's home schoolers.
Best of all, home schooling is rapidly approaching the "main stream."
Still, there are obstacles to overcome. The public education establishment has been thoroughly humiliated by the successes of home schoolers and their humiliations will only intensify as conditions continue to deteriorate. As a result, home schoolers will be subjected to more and more scrutiny in attempts to marginalize public education's most threatening competitor.
Fortunately, home schoolers tend to be activists and we are well organized with defense organizations in nearly every state. We aren't about to let the state intrude on our God given right and responsibility to educate our children.
