Gene Pitney...gone, but never forgotten
Gene Pitney died last night in his sleep while on tour in Wales. We haven't heard much from him lately, at least I haven't. But I grew up listening to his tunes. His biggest hit was Only Love Can Break A Heart, but two of my faves were Town Without Pity and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, inspired by the great John Wayne/Jimmy Stewart western movie with the same name.
He wasn't just a singer, but he wrote some big songs for Rick Nelson (Hello Mary Lou), Bobby Vee (Rubber Ball) and the Crystals (He's a Rebel).
Here's a list of songs and a short bio.
