Embryo-safe stem-cells: What's not to celebrate?

What's this...Embryo-safe stem-cells? What a breakthrough! Now we won't have to destroy embryos in order to harvest stem-cells and everyone should be happy, right? Well, not so fast.

The entire embryonic stem-cell "movement" has one purpose; to give legitimacy to abortion. How can I be so sure? Because not one disease has successfully been treated by embryonic stem-cells, and contrary to popular belief, embryonic stem-cell research has been going on since the 1950's. There are no restrictions to privately financed research, only government financed research. The pro-abortion crowd wants the government to finance research in order to thwart any future ban on abortion.

For more than 50 years, no embryonic research has promised anything, much less the miraculous cures that were promised in the last presidential campaign (Senator Edwards said Christopher Reeves would be walking if the dems won the Whitehouse).

Whereas adult stem-cells have proven to be quite effective:
Although there has been research on both adult stem-cells and embryonic stem cells since the fifties, only adult stem-cell research has produced any cures--and lots of 'em. Adult stem cells have been used for decades to treat dozens of diseases, including Type 1 diabetes, liver disease, and spinal cord injuries. Currently, adult stem cells are used to treat more than eighty different diseases. (Ann Coulter, Godless--The Church of Liberalism, pg 192)
The Left hates this kind of news:
Some opponents of the research said the method still doesn't satisfy their objections and many stem cell scientists and their supporters called it inefficient and politically wrong-headed.

But a spokeswoman for President Bush, who vetoed legislation last month that would have allowed federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, called it a step in the right direction.
Be sure to read the whole story; it may well be that neither side will be altogether happy with this finding which may even lead to more experimentation with embryonic stem-cells.
