A Congressional Sleight of Hand
Say it ain't so....could Congress really be planning a vote on embryos to distract America from the "Immigration" bill? Eagle Forum is calling their hand:
The Senate sure is feeling the heat from the Immigration debate and it’s because of YOUR calls of protest! The House, however, is aiming to interrupt your efforts to defeat the Senate amnesty bill by considering an equally controversial issue this week--destructive embryonic stem cell research!
According to news reports, the House will take up S.5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007. Originally introduced by Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), this bill would overturn President Bush's current policy and allow increased taxpayer dollars to fund the killing of human embryos. Since the Senate passed S.5 on April 11th, by a vote of 63-34 (Roll Call 127), President Bush has issued a Statement of Administration Policy warning Congress that he will veto any legislation that undercuts current pro-life policy. Thus, in the coming weeks, you should anticipate the following actions:
a House vote on S.5,
a Presidential veto,
a veto override vote which will take place in the Senate, the originating body of this piece of legislation. (The House will only be presented with a similar vote if the Senate overrides the President’s veto.)
This week, we ask you to work double-duty! The House vote is expected to occur this Thursday, June 7th! As our lobbying efforts are still directed in full force towards the Senate immigration bill, we also need your help in targeting the House to protect the sanctity of human life! Call your Representatives today!
Take Action
Call your Representative's office and let them know you expect them to vote NO on increased taxpayer funding for embryonic stem cell research!
