National Day of Prayer--May 1, 2008
There are two kinds of people: those who pray and those who don't.
Today is the 57th annual National Day of Prayer, and it would be a worthy goal to encourage as many people as possible to bow our heads and give God thanks for all we've undeservedly been given in this country since its founding. If you live in America, regardless of your socio-economic status, consider yourself a member of the "lucky sperm club."
But America's greatness is waning. There are those who wish to take us down the path of ever increasing socialism, confiscatory taxation and oppressive regulation which is, even now, having a devastating effect on our dollar and oil and gas prices. You can never regulate or tax a nation into prosperity; quite the opposite is the result.
If there was ever a time for national prayer, it is now.
Sadly, Big Media has made little or no mention of this National Day of Prayer to my knowledge. But then, Big Media is generally on the side of those who would have us be inflicted with higher taxes and more regulation...ergo less freedom, fewer choices.
You don't have to be part of any organized group to participate in this day of prayer; just come before God and thank Him for the many blessings He's afforded us since the founding of this country. Tell Him how much you appreciate all He's done for us as a nation and individually. It wouldn't hurt to offer up some heartfelt apologies for our national and individual sins and ask for His forgiveness and help.
He yearns to help us, you know. He's the parent who yearns for the love and return of an estranged child. It kills Him when we ignore Him, or worse, disown and disavow His very existence.
It's not too late for America to turn back to God. We just have to acknowledge Him and seek Him out. He has the answers. He wants us to be free and to live a blessed life. He's an inveterate giver, whereas Big Govt is an inveterate taker.
There's a sobering verse to consider in Proverbs...chapter 16:25...."There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."
It's good that a very large portion of the country continues to recognize this National Day of Prayer. If you are a praying person, pray that even more folks will recognize this day and every day as a day of prayer.
