"ENGAGE"
Yesterday, my wife and I, with two very good friends, had the opportunity to attend the Engage Worldview Conference in Denton, TX at the Denton Bible Church. The event was a joint effort of Summit Ministries and WORLD News Group (publisher of WORLD magazine).
The ENGAGE conference was an all day event here in the Dallas area aimed at Christians who hope to make a difference in their communities by becoming "engaged."
All too often, Christians sit back and see all that's wrong with the culture and feel helpless to do anything about it. Not only can Christians make a difference but the Bible clearly instructs us to be good examples and role models to everyone with whom we interact.
Jesus spells it out in Matthew 5:13-14 during his famous Sermon on the Mount that He wants us to be "the salt and the light" in our communities. This isn't for our benefit or so people will take notice of us, but rather that people will see that our Christian life is kind, admirable and produces positive results. Hopefully, our good stewardship to God will have a positve effect on the community and those around us.
But that's a two way street. The other side of that coin is for Christians to be poor examples to those with whom we come in contact and that's not a good way to "make points" with God or with our community.
If we're to be the "salt and the light" we have to do something. We don't have the luxury to sit back and watch society crumble before our very eyes. In fact, maybe it's crumbling because Christians have done too little for too long.
The next Engage Worldview Conference is going to be held in San Diego on November 16. More information is available at their link.
For those Christians who want to make a positive contribution to their communities, this valuable conference will show you the way.
