Note to President Bush: The New Tone isn't going to work this time, either

I sort of heard some of the President's news conference today. It may have been one of his worst ever and I just couldn't endure all of it. He lost me at the specious "new tone" talk. Sorry, Mr. President, but the so-called "new tone" tactic has never worked in Washington and you may have come close to saying as much in your news conference, but to employ it now is a sign of massive weakness. Yes, your power has diminished greatly in the last 24 hours, but that doesn't mean you should become a slavish toady to the obnoxious left. After all, becoming more "left-like" is the reason the dems won this go around.

The republicans betrayed the conservative base. That's not to say guys like Santorum and Steele weren't conservative enough, but way too many of the base decided to say "screw you!" How unfortunate...and by the sound of the President's news conference today, he empowered the left to do whatever they wish.

They got Rumsfeld; who next? Rumor has it Bolton is the next to go. Who thereafter? Rice, Cheney, Bush, himself? Is the left ever sated by just one destroyed soul? Absolutely no!

Let's see, there was Gingrich, Lott, Delay...and that's just a short list. The accommodating republicans have yet to learn that the left will never be satisfied with anything short of total destruction of whoever or whatever they are out to dominate.

Republicans can only survive and thrive if they return to their truly conservative roots. They have a long way to go. Right now they are essentially the democrat party and the dems are virtual socialists who make left-wing republicans look conservative by comparison.

This must change if America, as it was founded, is to survive and the change needs to happen within the next two years
