Gonzales quits: My Two Bits Worth
So everyone is now aware that Attorney General Gonzales has resigned and many on the right side of the isle aren't exactly upset about his departure. Was he just too nice a guy to put up with the leftist jackals? He was always on the defensive when he needed to be in their face. He needed to be more like Karl Rove.
This entire brouhaha could have been alleviated had Gonzales or the president just come out, early on, and simply stated that U.S. Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president. They are political appointments and the president can remove them at will for whatever reason he wishes. Period! President Clinton fired 93 U.S. Attorneys. President Bush fired 7 or 8.
It seems to me that Gonzales got into hot water by trying to make nice with people who had every intention of destroying him and as many others as possible in the administration. Co-operation, non-partisanship...the "new tone," remember? It's a failed policy. You can't play nice with ruthless snakes who will bite you when you least expect it.
You can't get along with your enemies. You don't co-operate with them. You confront them. You fight them. Partisanship is a good thing. Non-partisanship means only one thing. It means the right must concede to the left.
Gonzales is a nice guy. He's probably a good guy, but he co-operated with the leftists and they had him for breakfast this morning.
Will they stop with Gonzales? On the contrary. His resignation only encourages them. Who's next?
