Uncle Jay is rapidly becoming my favorite "weekly news wrap-up." It's probably because he appeals to small minds. Check out the latest edition and expand your mind!

Quote of the Day

"We have now sunk to a depth where the restatement of the obvious is the duty of intelligent men"
George Orwell said that.

The above quote is exemplified in a brilliantly "obvious" piece over at the American Thinker. The title of the article is Madness and Political Life and deserves your attention for we are at the place in time about which Mr. Orwell prophesied. Ahem!

I'll get you started, but promise me you'll read the entire piece at the above link:
How often do we have to return to the words of Orwell to make sense of the world today? There is madness in our lives, and it neither seeks nor wants a cure. Great nations are altering their economies, impoverishing their poorest subjects, condemning their progeny all in support of the lie of global warming.

Is it not obvious, by now, that a cyclical climate change is part of the history of our planet? (Has that not been obvious since we knew about the ice ages?) And is it not obvious that we do not even know whether the planet is growing hotter or colder? (What if the real problem turns out to be global cooling? Then we have no time to lose in doing all we can to heat up the environment and increase our individual carbon footprint.) The depressing part of all this is that otherwise sane people seem invested in catastrophic silliness. We are reduced to restating the obvious.
Please read the whole thing and try to figure out what a sane person is to do!

Bruce Walker, the author of the piece does, in fact, offer a sensible solution and if you're reading this, maybe, you're onto it.

Uncle Jay Explains The News

Having been out of town and out of touch, I hereby post this special edition of Uncle Jay a day late. Don't miss our favorite news commentator as he talks down to us this week in elitist-speak. Usually he just talks down to us in a way those of us who were educated in govt schools can understand.

Let Them Eat Ethanol!

Snifter clink to An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings for this one.

On a related subject, Neal Boortz has a blurb about the rising prices of food, energy and basically everything else. Who's to blame? Hint...it's not Big Oil. Hit his link for additional links on high prices, corn shortages and the basic ineptitude of Big Govt. Boortz is always informative, entertaining and very often poignant.

Conspiracy? What Conspiracy?

Phyllis Schlafly has an excellent piece about the so-called North American Union, poo-pooed by all manner of those who would marginalize anyone who would dare think that our altruistic leaders would ever thrust something like that upon us.

The "North American Union is nothing more than unimaginable tripe conceived by whacked-out right-wing conspiracy freaks"...yeah, right....and the Federal Reserve is actually a Federal Bank; uh-huh...I get it.

So does Phyllis Schalfly and her above linked article is well worth reading.

Terrorists Hope for Obama Victory

Does it really come as any surprise that terrorists (or any enemy of the U.S.)would want an appeaser like Obama to be the next president?
JERUSALEM – On the eve of a planned meeting with former President Jimmy Carter, the isolated Hamas terrorist organization has expressed "hope" Sen. Barack Obama will win the presidential elections and "change" America's foreign policy.

"We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the elections," Ahmed Yousuf, Hamas' top political adviser in the Gaza Strip, said in an exclusive interview with WND and with the John Batchelor Show on WABC Radio in New York.

"I hope Mr. Obama and the Democrats will change the political discourse. ... I do believe [Obama] is like John Kennedy, a great man with a great principal. And he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community, but not with humiliation and arrogance," Yousuf said, speaking from Gaza.
Can anyone guess who their 2nd choice might be, aside from Jimmy Carter?

This, of course, would be a good political ad for the republicans, but fearing how the dems would react, the spineless republicans will be silent about this.

Thou shalt not murder...PLANTS!

When you think things couldn't get more outawhack, an article like this comes along:
PLANTS deserve respect, a group of Swiss experts says, arguing that killing them arbitrarily is morally wrong - except when it comes to saving humans or maybe picking petals off a daisy.

In a report on "the dignity of the creature in the plant world", the federal Ethics Committee on non-human Gene Technology condemned the decapitation of flowers without reason, among other sins.

Still, commission member Bernard Baertsche suggested the body weighed such cruel acts on a case by case basis, noting "the simple pleasure of picking the petals off a daisy might suffice as a reason".
So the "ethicists" have decreed that a little round of "she loves me; she loves me not" is a case of justifiable homicide, but "flower decapitation" for the sake of a lovely flower arrangement is strictly taboo.

I wonder where these "ethicists" stand on respect for the unborn.

Girly Men Surrounding Hillary?

If you're not a regular reader of Camille Paglia or if you missed Rush today, you really must go to the above Paglia link and read about the men with whom Hillary surrounds herself and how that relates to her would-be circle of power if (heaven forbid) she is elected president.

It's my must-read for the day.

Now, THERE'S a Hot Camel!!

Hmmm...would it be improper to call the honorable prince a camel jockey, a keeper of camel jockeys or just someone with too much time and money on his hands?

What are we to assume when you pay $2.7 Million for a camel?

Is this what happens when women wear Birkas?

I'm just wondering....

Uncle Jay Explains The News

Uncle Jay, as always, does a superb job of explaining last weeks news. Today, he adroitly explains the "r" word which everyone but Glenn Beck avoids like the plague.

I'm Not The Only One Who Won't Be Buying Absolut Vodka

Absolut better have a large illegal alien customer base because they've pissed off the Gringos big time with their multiculturally and politically correct nouveau map of the southwest. From now on I'll be buying Tito's Handmade Vodka, which is made deep in the heart of Texas (I'm not a Vodka drinker myself, but Mama sure does like those Cosmopolitans.)

I seriously doubt that TexasFred will be buying Absolut anytime soon, but he does have a map that appeals to 99.9% of all Texans as opposed to the bogus Absolut map that appeals only to illegals or to those educated in govt schools. What were they thinking and what were they drinking?

Michelle Malkin has more on this outrageous ad campaign.

Charlton Heston Dead at 84

Charlton Heston died tonight at the age of 84:

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. Legendary actor, civil-rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away today, at 84. He died at his home with Lydia, his wife of 64 years, at his side.

Heston is survived by his two children, Fraser Clarke Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and his three grandchildren, Jack Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell. A private memorial service will be held.
In the days to come, much will be remembered and written about him and deservedly so.

Of course, he'll be immortalized as Moses, from one his his best known roles in The Ten Commandments (1956), but mainly he'll just be remembered for being one of the good guys.

He'll be missed.

Here is a statement by the family of Charlton Heston:

"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.

We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved.

No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people."

A private memorial service will be held. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund:

Much more here with good pics and some YouTube clips.

Here's a great tribute from The American Spectator.

Here's a good obit! Heston is remembered on The Times Onlinene.

William F. Buckley Jr....We Hardly Knew Ye

They're not making them like William F. Buckley anymore! Yesterday, his closest friends and family paid a gracious good-bye to him at his memorial.

Additionally, you'll want to read this thoughtful and loving piece by his son, Christopher Buckley, which was posted at National Review Online. There are many good posts there in memory of WFB, but the one to which I refer is titled, My Old Man and the Sea. This is a great piece! What a wonderful legacy to bestow upon one's son and one's family.
