The Class That Never Was

It's that time of year when Graduations from high schools, colleges and universities are taking place all across the fruited plain. It's called Commencement, rightly so because it's a time of beginning for all those fortunate enough to be able to participate. But what about the Class that never was?

This weekend, Ronald L. Dart reprieves his classic Born To Win program titled, The Class That Never Was.

You can hear the program by clicking on the above Born To Win link and then by clicking on The Class that Never Was link or you can just scroll down to the Born To Win icon on the right side of this blog and click on the pulsating speakers.

It's a thought provoking program. Don't miss it!

Just Another Dry Hole

Thanks to Lucianne.com for posting this insightful observation. Although the cartoon characterizes Harry Reid, he's just one of 535 "dry holes" in Congress who can personally take responsibility for the energy shortfall in this country. Let's include the president and make it 536. Thanks, guys. You all are real pieces of work!

Here and now would be a good time to let the ne'er do wells on Capitol Hill know that you're sick and tired of their failed policies on energy. Sign up now to get your name on Newt Gingrich's petition to demand more domestic drilling. Do it now and pass it around to your email buds....the link:

ACTION ALERT: Fight Back Against High Gas Prices And the Politicians Who Will Make them Higher Still

We can even do more...be sure to check out Oil Solution.org for some problem solving ideas.

It's up to the American people now. The left-wing political elitists offer only punitive measures which are only worsening our energy crisis. Demand of them the right to domestic exploration, production and refining capabilities. Demand that they cease and desist from crippling our energy producing companies.

We can't sit idly back while arrogant left-wing politicians take America to an economic standstill.

Get involved!

Memorial Day Quote Worth Remembering

The quote on the above monument honoring those who fought at the Battle of Vicksburg from the state of Tennessee:

Honor to those who never sought it;
Fame to those who never wished it;
Glory to those who never dreamed it;
Immortality, for they earned it.

The Confederate Soldiers of Tennessee
Mike Grissom
That quote could be applied to every soldier from every war to whom we honor and memorialize on this Memorial Day weekend.

May God bless and comfort the families of those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. May we always remember them and their families and may we always remember and support those who put themselves in harms way to defend our way of life...God bless them.

The Sad State of American Politics

There's an excellent piece at the American Thinker titled Your Energy Future Under the Democrats. Here's a bit of it...check it out:
The "energy plan" announced by the Democrats offer one thing: a significant slowdown of our economy for at least twenty years. Those who run both legislative branches of the congress, and the energy plans of both of their leading candidates for president clothe themselves in the mantle of righteousness. That the Republicans are allowing this to happen, right before our eyes, tells us much about the sad state of American politics.

From their official website, here is the summary paragraph (including the bad grammar) of the Democrat plan to solve the energy crisis:

We will create a cleaner, greener and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, eliminating billions in subsidies for oil and gas companies and use the savings to provide consumer relief and develop energy alternatives, and investing in energy independent technology.

This is also the Democrat solution. Get it? The Democrat plan is the Democrat solution. In logic this is called petitio principii or "begging the question."

Ask yourself: which of the five components of the "plan" should happen first? "Reducing our dependence on foreign oil" is listed first. But it cannot happen first. In order to keep the economy moving ahead, some type of energy must replace foreign oil-and this energy must be tangible, readily available, and close to the market price of the energy it is replacing.
We don't have an immediate replacement of fossil fuels nor do we need one at this point. We just need to start drilling...here, there and everywhere!

By all means read the rest of the piece.

Uncle Jay Explains The News

Here's the latest installment of Uncle Jay Explains The News. No need to heed the hype of the media elites when Uncle Jay has the straight poop right here and now!

How Polar Bears and the Endangered Species Act Affects You

Hugh Hewitt has a wonderfully informative piece on how the recent ruling on Polar Bears will affect you and our future. Please go there!

Here's a sample, but please check out the entire post and its links:
After 18 years of a law practice devoted to counseling landowners, home builders and commercial interests affected by the long arm and severe penalties of the Endangered Species Act, I am used to incredulous looks and outraged oaths from clients coming to grips with the Act's incredible burdens on impacted private citizens.
"Are you telling me I can't build my Burger King because a Delhi Sands flower-loving fly that has never been seen and is above ground only a few days a year might be near-by?"

"I can't build a connector road because the noise from construction might damage the hearing of the Stephens' kangaroo rat thus impairing its reproduction?"

"All construction in San Diego involving impacts to road ruts which might contain Vernal Pool Fairy Shrimp is enjoined? All construction?"

Yes, yes, and yes. The list of situations in which the ESA has stopped otherwise legal and fully permitted projects from proceeding is extraordinarily long and getting longer. With Wednesday's decision to list the polar bear as "threatened" the burden on the American economy brought about by the ESA grew exponentially.
This was an important vote that passed last week and unfortunately the masses and group thinkers are more concerned with American Idol and whether or not Mariah Carey was secretly married a couple of weeks ago...HUH?

America is crumbling and we are concerned about the likes of Madonna, Brittany, Mariah, Beyonce, and any other babe du jour who is able to dissuade us from the real societal problems? Puhleeeese...is the entire universe infected with Attention Deficit Syndrome?

Again I say, wake up America!!!

Leftist Quote of the Day

Brought to you by Barack Hussein Obama:

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
Excuse me, Mr. Obama, but since when have we needed the permission of "other countries" to drive SUV's, eat as much as we want or keep our thermostats on 72 degrees?

Is that the "change" group thinkers and media elites want for this country? Do we want our "leaders" to do opinion polls in the rest of the world to see whether or not what we do is acceptable to them? Is that the type of pseudo-leadership Obama espouses? Is that what the dems are wetting themselves over?

It might be...it probably is; but I know for a fact that red blooded, freedom loving, gun toting, religion clinging middle America couldn't care less what socialists like Obama or his international constituency want for this still sovereign country.

Wake up America!

Draw at your own risk!

Mike Ramirez's editorial cartoon speaks volumes to the lunacy of biofuels. It also exemplifies the controversy he creates with each cartoon he pens.

An article in the New York Post, titled READY, AIM, DRAW! calls attention to the dangers of speaking, or in the case of Mike Ramirez, drawing your mind:
May 18, 2008 -- Michael Ramirez has been fired by the Los Angeles Times, sweated by cops, denounced by politicians and pursued by the Secret Service. He gets death threats. But it comes with the territory. He's an editorial cartoonist.

When he was working for the L.A. Times in 2003, he drew President Bush with his hands tied behind his back being shot in the head by a figure labeled "politics" - a parody of a famous Vietnam War photo. Bush fans were outraged, missing the point that Ramirez thought the president's reputation was being assassinated. "We were flooded with phone calls," says Ramirez. "This guy called and said, 'Are you Mike Ramirez? I'd like to see you.' And I said, 'You'll have to stand in line.' He said, 'Well, I'm with the Secret Service.' And I said, 'How do I know that?' And he said, 'Because I've got a black suit, black sunglasses and a black tie.' " Ramirez didn't meet with the deadpan agent - L.A. Times lawyers wouldn't allow it - and the Times later cut him loose in a round of layoffs. Now he's happily ensconced at Investors' Business Daily, which archives his scathing one-panel satires at ibdeditorials.com. He is also widely syndicated.
Be sure to read the rest of the piece.

If there's one thing the left can't handle, it's when people laugh at their foolish (and failed) policies. Arrogance hates to be made the object of jokes.

In the case of the failed biofuels campaign, world hunger and sky rocketing food prices are no laughing matter and unfortunately, the proponants of this woefully inept "agriculture as energy" policy line up on both sides of the political isle.

In the words of the soon to be often quoted Ed Grimley:
We're as doomed as doomed can be!

Sustainable Mother's Day Greetings and Felicitations

The Glasgow family hopes everyone had a "sustainable" Mother's Day (please see the following post!.) Maybe you were able to go to Whole Foods for a few organic things on which to munch (hopefully you brought your own cloth bag or bags so as to save the environment.) Please don't tell me your Mother's Day card was not constructed of recycled paper...we'll just assume you're sensitive enough to think of those things.

Our family correctly went to a seafood restaurant (no politically incorrect red meat for us...at least on this sustainable Mother's Day) wherein almost all of the Mother's Day fare was farm raised and didn't interfere with the endangered fish population of the world's oceans. (My, how I was lusting after Wild Pacific Salmon broiled on a cedar plank, but it wasn't offered on the special Mom's day menu. Ahem!)

Still, we had a wonderful Mom's day. It did seem a little strange that our honored Mom du jour, the wife of my youth and my beloved of 34 years, two precious kids, and one irreplacible son-in-law, all arrived at and left from my wife's favorite restaurant in five separate cars.

Seems we were all coming and going in vastly different directions and required lo, so many different gas-guzzling vehicles. Now, that was not sustainable!!! But we weren't really thinking "sustainability" because freedom loving folks don't live our lives thinking about "sustainability" because we cherish our freedom.

Our family of five came and went in five separate vehicles this afternoon because we had five different places we needed to go after our very special Mother's Day luncheon. Two of us had to go to Ft. Worth. One of us came up from Houston and none of us had to answer to anyone in order to do that.

There are actually people out there who object to what we did today. As freedom loving Americans, the Glasgow family doesn't really care whether or not some people disapprove of our "unsustainable" activities. In fact, I rather encourage these type of activities as long as we can afford them.

Unfortunately, it's those who adhere to the "sustainability" philosophy who want us to be energy dependent on thugs who gladly hold us "over the barrel"...(pun intended.)

It wouldn't have had to be this way. We are awash in energy! It's there for the drilling...at Anwar, off the coasts, in the gulf of Mexico, near Cuba, in the Dakotas and God knows where else. It's there for the geologists to find!

We could have been building nuclear energy plants around the country for the past 30 years. We could have been building refineries in key locations. But, no...leftist regulatory agencies have forbidden these activities and they will continue to forbid these activities.

Can anyone speculate why any one or any group would not want us to have energy independence?

Sucked in by "Sustainability"

The following is a post taken from the Reject the U.N. blog:

"Whenever you hear the word "Sustainable", think U.N. and loss of freedom. Like many catch phrases, the "sustainability" word has found its way into pop culture, politics and policy when more often than not, people have no idea what the word means or connotes.

Who could ever be against "sustainability?" The term has caught on just like "going green" has caught on. They are "feel good" concepts that group thinkers don't "feel" the need to investigate.

Henry Lamb has always been one to investigate, especially when indications point to the U.N. as the source of these matters. Who says the U.N. is irrelevant? Here's a portion of his WND piece:

Add the word "sustainable" to almost any project, and immediately the project becomes politically correct and therefore acceptable. The surge of "sustainability" or "sustainable development" in recent years is phenomenal. Americans have been awed by the sales pitch and have bought into the idea of "sustainable development" – without looking under the hood to examine the engine. Nor have Americans realized that "sustainable development" is a self-directing vehicle that is transforming a once-free society into "sustainable communities" where nearly every human activity requires the permission of government.

The principle of private property rights is an early victim. Private property rights cannot exist in a sustainable community. In a sustainable community, a property owner's rights are limited to whatever government decides is appropriate.

Freedom rests upon the principle of private property ownership. Ownership of property is the right to use the property and to exclude others from it. When the right to use one's property is restricted or diminished by government, so then is the owner's freedom diminished.

The concept of private property is incompatible with the concept of sustainable development. Sustainable development is, by definition, a function of government that uses the force of law to balance resource use (the environment) with economic development to achieve social equity.
He lays out the plan, signed by the Clinton administration, in the remainder of his column. Be sure to read it!"

Blind Guy Bowls Perfect Game!

Blind and 78 years old, Dale Davis bowled a perfect 300 last Saturday:
A perfect game in bowling is rare enough. Turning the trick without even seeing the pins? That's a new one.

"It was quite a thrill," Davis told the Storm Lake Times in Storm Lake, Iowa. "When I got to the tenth frame, I said 'Lord, let me throw three more good balls.' When I did, people on other teams were yelling and cheering. A few guys were hugging me and almost broke my skinny bones."

The report said Davis, a Navy veteran, got his start in bowling as a pin-setter during his teenage years, making 45 cents a night at a local alley. He went on to succeed in leagues and tournaments, including winning a $2,500 top prize in a California event shortly after his days in the service.

Davis was living in California in 1996 when he lost sight in his left eye, the report said, and the right eye followed a year later. He then decided to move back to Iowa, where he was raised, where his sister still lives.
Be sure to read the entire article.

I'm sure Mr. Davis had no intention of humiliating Obama, who bowled a meager 37
just a couple of weeks ago.

GOP In Big Trouble

THIS is what happens when republicans abandon their conservative base:

Shell shocked House Republicans got warnings from leaders past and present Tuesday: Your party’s message isn’t good enough to prevent disaster in November, and neither is the NRCC’s money.

The double shot of bad news had one veteran Republican House member worrying aloud that the party’s electoral woes — brought into sharp focus by Woody Jenkins’ loss to Don Cazayoux in Louisiana on Saturday — have the House Republican Conference splitting apart in “everybody for himself” mode.

“There is an attitude that, ‘I better watch out for myself, because nobody else is going to do it,’” the member said. “There are all these different factions out there, everyone is sniping at each other, and we have no real plan. We have a lot of people fighting to be the captain of the lifeboat instead of everybody pulling together.”

In a piece published in Human Events, the Republicans’ onetime captain, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, warned his old colleagues that they face “real disaster” on Election Day unless they move immediately to “chart a bold course of real reform” for the country.
Sadly, the republicans are clueless. Just as the dems have raced at breakneck speeds to the left, so have the republicans. The feckless republicans have become the liberal democrats of 30 years ago and the dems have become out and out socialists. The conservatives are in a high state of urination...we're pissed, folks, and the republican party is wondering why they don't have any money or support.

The republicans are bereft of leadership and they will continue to flounder until they beg forgiveness of their conservative base and begin instituting some right thinking plans to defeat the destructive leftists who will likely dominate in the next election.

Lynne “Angel” Harvey; the Woman Behind the Man

Lynne "Angel" Harvey, the beloved woman behind the legendary Paul Harvey died this past weekend at the age of 88. She had been suffering from leukemia for the past year.

Ron Chapman, renowned Dallas broadcaster, who has been filling in for Mr. Harvey for several weeks, gave a glowing tribute to Mrs. Harvey today in the mid-day broadcast. It was news to me that she had died Saturday and I was surprised that her death didn't make national news. If it did, I missed it.

Unknown to most Paul Harvey fans was the fact that his wife was his radio producer and, in fact the first radio producer to be inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. She was the developer and editor of the "Rest of the Story" and also came up with Paul Harvey's signature "for what it's worth" feature; the "kicker" as it is known in the radio business.

There are many tributes to her out there and I may continue to list them as I read them, but I liked this one from Cincinnati by John Kiesewetter.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Harvey and his family for their tremendous loss. One can only imagine how difficult it will be for Mr. Harvey to return to the microphone without his partner in life and business on the other side of the glass. I'm betting his return will happen on some upcoming Saturday when he has the time to pay homage to her as only he is able. There won't be a dry eye in his entire listening audience.

May God bless and comfort the entire family in their loss.

"No Intelligence Allowed"

I first heard about Ben Stein's new movie back in January. It finally came out this week and we went to see Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed just this morning. By all means, make it a point to see it.

Throughout the movie, I couldn't help but compare it to what's going on now with the "consensus" of global warming, (er, climate change, since the warming aspect hasn't been quite so easy to prove.) Those who oppose the theories of the elite "intelligentsia" are marginalized, demonized, and vacuously called names....deniers, idiots, fundamentalists...you know the drill. Sure you can oppose them, but you'll have to oppose them from without... forget about that tenure or grant money. It's their way or the highway!

When the DNA cell was enlarged (in the movie) and we were treated to a would be tour of what we now know to be such a vastly complex cell, my wife and I were reminded of King David's words more than 2500 years ago...that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made."

Psa 139:13 For You have possessed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb.
Psa 139:14 I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are marvelous and my soul knows it very well.
Psa 139:15 My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret and skillfully formed in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psa 139:16 Your eyes saw my embryo; and in Your book all my members were written, the days they were formed, and not one was among them.
Psa 139:17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
And he hadn't a clue as to molecular structure back then.

I wish I had the intellect to go one one with any one of these people, but what would be the point. Regardless of intellect, or lack thereof, they see me as a fool for believing in God and I see them as fools for not. The only difference is, I have the authority of God's written word (Rom. 1 comes to mind), and they have the inane doctrine of Darwinianism which, ironically, does not even address the origin of life.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
Rom 1:19 because the thing which may be known of God is clearly revealed within them, for God revealed it to them.
Rom 1:20 For the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being realized by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse.
Rom 1:21 Because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful. But they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing to be wise, they became fools
Rom 1:23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves.
Rom 1:25 For they changed the truth of God into a lie, and they worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause, God gave them up to dishonorable affections. For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature.
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another; males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right,
Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers,
Rom 1:30 backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud, braggarts, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 undiscerning, perfidious, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; Rom 1:32 who, knowing the righteous order of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but have pleasure in those practicing them.
When arguments fail, then debate must be squashed. Failed doctrine and failed policies must then be forcefully imposed and freedoms start disappearing one by one...like freedom of speech, freedom of religion and so on. It's happening before our very eyes.

God bless Ben Stein and people like him who call attention to what amounts to the spiritual warfare of good v. evil in our culture.

Be sure to see this remarkable expose'.

National Day of Prayer--May 1, 2008

There are two kinds of people: those who pray and those who don't.

Today is the 57th annual National Day of Prayer, and it would be a worthy goal to encourage as many people as possible to bow our heads and give God thanks for all we've undeservedly been given in this country since its founding. If you live in America, regardless of your socio-economic status, consider yourself a member of the "lucky sperm club."

But America's greatness is waning. There are those who wish to take us down the path of ever increasing socialism, confiscatory taxation and oppressive regulation which is, even now, having a devastating effect on our dollar and oil and gas prices. You can never regulate or tax a nation into prosperity; quite the opposite is the result.

If there was ever a time for national prayer, it is now.

Sadly, Big Media has made little or no mention of this National Day of Prayer to my knowledge. But then, Big Media is generally on the side of those who would have us be inflicted with higher taxes and more regulation...ergo less freedom, fewer choices.

You don't have to be part of any organized group to participate in this day of prayer; just come before God and thank Him for the many blessings He's afforded us since the founding of this country. Tell Him how much you appreciate all He's done for us as a nation and individually. It wouldn't hurt to offer up some heartfelt apologies for our national and individual sins and ask for His forgiveness and help.

He yearns to help us, you know. He's the parent who yearns for the love and return of an estranged child. It kills Him when we ignore Him, or worse, disown and disavow His very existence.

It's not too late for America to turn back to God. We just have to acknowledge Him and seek Him out. He has the answers. He wants us to be free and to live a blessed life. He's an inveterate giver, whereas Big Govt is an inveterate taker.

There's a sobering verse to consider in Proverbs...chapter 16:25...."There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."

It's good that a very large portion of the country continues to recognize this National Day of Prayer. If you are a praying person, pray that even more folks will recognize this day and every day as a day of prayer.
