Report: Gore’s Lights Left on for Media-Hyped 'Earth Hour'

NO!!!!! PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!! How could this possibly be true? Could it be that Algore’s lights were left on for the massively hyped 'Earth Hour?' This can't be...
We're nearly 24 hours out of Earth Hour and the media are already proclaiming it a success as Michael Bates pointed out for NewsBusters in a blog post earlier today.

However one prominent global warming alarmist reportedly didn't fully participate in the Earth Hour festivities. According to Drew Johnson, president of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, global warming activist and former Vice President Al Gore left his lights for the hyped Earth Hour.

"I pulled up to Al's house, located in the posh Belle Meade section of Nashville, at 8:48pm - right in the middle of Earth Hour," Johnson wrote and reprinted on the Washington Examiner's blog on March 29. "I found that the main spotlights that usually illuminate his 9,000 square foot mansion were dark, but several of the lights inside the house were on."

The mainstream media gave the actual event plenty of free publicity, as actor Edward Norton, the official U.S. ambassador for Earth Hour, made the media rounds touting the event. Norton went as far as proclaiming the event to be as symbolically important as the Selma march, on two separate occasions - on NBC's March 27 "Today" and CNN's March 25 "Larry King Live."

However, it begs the question that if any of these same media outlets, that have had a love affair with Gore in the past - March 21, 2007 "Today" and May 22, 2007 "Larry King Live" - will pick up on the former vice president's lack of Earth Hour participation.

American Thinker: Fool's Day Arrives Early

If you're laughing at those who actually turned off all their lights for one hour tonight (surely they know to keep their headlights on...hmmm) then you'll like this short piece from the American Thinker:
By Marc Sheppard
At 8:30 this evening in every time zone on the planet, droves of otherwise rational human beings will be dousing their lights to be counted among those believing that such actions may somehow ward off climate change. Please.

Say hello to another edition of Earth Hour and to those fools who either believe that the byproducts of civilization’s sustaining power generation somehow degrade Mother Nature’s climate balance or simply play along for fun and profit.

According to event sponsor World Wildlife Fund’s website, “Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming.” Talk about your false dilemmas. Lights off – save the planet. Lights on – bring on the floods, plagues and the general hellfire penance for the sins of your selfish success. What a crock.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon explained just how his conspicuously corrupted coalition, whose NY headquarters will be joining in the dimming festivities, will utilize the “votes”:
“People will be telling their representatives to seal a deal in Copenhagen. A deal at the climate change talks that will protect people and the planet. We need an ambitious agreement. An agreement that is fair and effective. An agreement based on sound science.”

We’ve shredded the clueless Ban’s absurd “sound science” claim time and time again, and won’t repeat ourselves this Saturday night. And fair and effective? A decade of cooling and an increasingly skeptical populace have these clowns in such a frenzy to establish their illusory worldwide government, they’ve patently dropped all pretenses. In fact, the plan they’ll propose at tomorrow’s climate conference in Bonn, Germany calls for nothing short of an international reallocation of both wealth and the industry that drives it.

Reading the reshuffling scheme this Fox News-acquired UN document [PDF] dares tender, you’d think the alarmists had somehow successfully sold their mankind stinks fairy tale. Thankfully, recent polls suggest they haven’t.

Nonetheless, enough fools will likely play along with tonight’s lights out parlor game to stock the alarmist armory for the pending Battle of Copenhagen (December’s Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen), where the world governance maps of Kyoto II will be drawn.

And these same fools will be oblivious to the irony that the candles they light will emit more CO2 than would have the electric bulbs they’ve extinguished. And that were they to walk down to the beach and relieve themselves en masse into the ocean, they’d have as much effect on the tides as their carbon footprint has on the climate.

Let Your Light Shine Brightly During Earth Hour!

The only upside to "Earth Hour" is that the United Nations building in NYC will be completely dark. What a beautiful concept! Unfortunately, the darkness will only last one hour.

It's altogether fitting and proper that the proponents of "Earth Hour/Earth Day/Global Warming" are promoting darkness over light. After all, the so-called solutions to the trumped up problems are regressive in nature and will destroy our economy as we know it.

The solutions offered, no, demanded by the radical left are indeed, dark. They are antithetical to the light and want to rid the world of it. The left believes we use too much of the world's supply of energy, so get ready for brown-outs this summer.

This little "Earth Hour" exercise will separate the real progressives from the real regressives and those who are able to think independently from the group thinkers who will do anything to be part of the crowd.

As for me and my family, our lights will be shining brightly during this celebration of darkness.

Best Ever Movie Line!

Major hat tip to my buddy, M.E. over at Stand in the Trenches:

GAFFNEY: Our enemies sense weakness

Well, yeah! What else would they be thinking?

Frank Gaffney, in a piece in the Washington Times lines it out succinctly. Here are a few of the money paragraphs:
President Obama's stewardship of the national security portfolio to date amounts to a wrecking operation, a set of policies he must understand will not only weaken the United States but embolden our foes. After all, the communist agitator Saul Alinsky, a formative influence in Mr. Obama's early years as a “community organizer,” made the following Rule No. 1 in his 1971 book “Rules for Radicals” — “Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”

According to this logic, the various steps Mr. Obama is taking with respect to the armed forces, the foreign battlefields in which they are engaged, our allies as well as our adversaries will not only diminish our power. They will encourage our enemies to perceive us as less powerful - with ominous implications. Consider some illustrative examples:

• The Obama administration is cutting the defense budget by 10 percent. The result will preclude much, if not virtually all, of the modernization that will be required to prepare the U.S. military to contend with tomorrow's wars. Most of what the Pentagon spends goes to fixed - and growing - personnel-related costs (pay, bonuses, health care, etc.) and operations. As a result, at Obama funding levels, there will not be much available even to “reset” today's forces by refurbishing the equipment being used up in present conflicts.

• The president is on a path to denuclearizing the United States by refusing to modernize the arsenal or even to fund fully the steps necessary to assure the viability of the weapons we have. He hopes to dress up this act of unilateral disarmament by seeking to resume arms-control negotiations with Russia, as though such throwbacks to the old Cold War and its bipolar power structure apply today - let alone that there are grounds for believing the Kremlin would adhere to new treaties any better than the previous ones it systematically violated.

• For good measure, Mr. Obama is mounting a frontal assault on the armed forces. The president plans to repeal the law prohibiting gays from serving in the military. It is absolutely predictable that significant numbers of servicemen and -women - including many of the most experienced commissioned and noncommissioned officers - will retire rather than serve in conditions of forced intimacy with individuals who may find them sexually attractive. The effect will be to break the all-volunteer force.

Please read the entire piece and weep!

Will America EVER wake up to this insanity?

Is the 'global war on terror' over now?

So we heard earlier this week that Obama had put an end to the "global war on terror" in one fell swoop by issuing a mandate making that term extinct and we would now refer to it as an "overseas contingency operation."

Not sure what he calls those pesky little 9/11 incidents.

Now they are denying the mandate, but then as Rush has said, all of Obama's statements have expiration dates on them.

While this one seems to have expired, lets watch to see how often the "terror" words come up in speeches.

WE NEED CONSERVATIVE POLITICIANS LIKE THIS!!!!!

You've GOT TO LOVE Daniel Hannan, MEP for South East England, who railed against Prime Minister Gordon Brown for spending the Brits into oblivion just like Obama and our out of control congress is doing. See it for yourself and pass it on.

This is EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON IN WASHINGTON THIS VERY MOMENT but very few of the loyal opposition have had the intestinal fortitude to stand up in congress and tell it like it really is. We're only hearing this from Rush, Mark Levin, Hannity and other conservative Talkers out there.

We do need to take our hats off to Congresswoman Michele Bachmann R. from Minnesota, who rightly questioned Geithner and Bernanke on the constitutionality of their power grabs. Go to her website; she deserves our support.

Stay on your representatives. Write them, call them, ask them why they aren't vociferously speaking out against Obama's massive spending and his demonization of private business.

Republicans may not have the votes to defeat the dems, but that doesn't mean they have to go along with the massive spending bills. Since the dems have the votes, let them take full credit for the havoc they are wreaking.

This is the Obama/Reid/Pelosi economy. The dems own it free and clear. Unfortunately, WE & OUR CHILDREN are the ones who will be paying for it!

Rep. Frank calls Scalia a 'homophobe' in interview

Hmmm....since Rep. Frank has called Scalia a 'homophobe', does that mean Frank is a "heterophobe?" And if a homophobe is a bad thing, all things being equal in the world of moral relativism, is it not equally bad to be a heterophobe?

C'mon, Rep. Frank, what's with the denigrating comment? Aren't you an egalitarian?

Where Are All The Powerful People?

Gino Vannelli was one of my musical mainstays in the '70's and '80's. I still love his timeless music. In many ways it's more meaningful today than it was 30 years ago. This particularly powerful piece seems somewhat prophetic in the musical question it poses. It's titled "Powerful People."

Give him a listen and consider the lyrics.

America The Beautiful

Every Friday the Great one ends his show by playing Ray Charles' splendiferous version of America The Beautiful. I can't think of a better way to wrap up the week by kicking back in your favorite recliner and reflecting on how blessed we've been in this country courtesy of God Almighty and the liberties He has given us.

It might be a good time to ponder why we're losing those liberties and blessings before our very eyes.

Enjoy this magnificent performance:

"We have met the enemy..."

Quote of the day:
We have met the enemy and it's the people who represent us. The blowhards and buffoons in Congress proved again Wednesday they are worse than useless.
That's the lead paragraph of a Michael Goodwin piece which exposes the real culprits behind the AIG brouhaha.

Here are a few of the money paragraphs:

"Much of the government outrage over the bonuses pool of $165 million was phony anyway, canned up for a public now being taught that the private sector is evil and must be punished. The real outrage is that the bonuses represented a fraction of the $180 billion of public money pumped into AIG without any real oversight.

Predictably, most of Liddy's tormentors steered clear of that topic, lest they be forced to make a tough call on a complex issue.

Liddy stands guilty of being tone deaf to the public anger on any bonus payouts at a time when people have lost their savings, their homes and their jobs. But as he repeatedly made clear, he came not to defend AIG's past, merely to clean it up.

That puts him head and shoulders above those in Washington who follow no star except merciless ambition."

Be sure to read the entire piece.

TOTUS: You just gotta love Rush Limbaugh!

If you can't beat 'em you can always laugh uproariously at them and in the case of this current administration there is so much at which to laugh and mock. Take TOTUS for example. President Obama has been outed as going nowhere without his teleprompters. Even at parties and informal situations they are ever-present.

It was El Rushbo who started addressing Mr. Teleprompter and it was Rush who posed some pertinent questions for TOTUS.

You really have to wonder about a president or any big time official who can't speak off the cuff in even casual situations. And Obama is reputed to be the most brilliant elocutionist ever to occupy the White House. What gives?

Something is terribly wrong with that picture!

I'm loving the fact that someone has the cahones to mock one of the most arrogant presidents of our generation on what is supposed to be his strongest asset...his brilliant speaking ability.

How is it that the worshipful followers are so blinded?

I'm reminded of the old idiom: there are none so blind as those who will not see.
P.S. If you're not listening to Big Talk Radio these days, you're missing out on the most accurate and succinct analysis of what is going on in the world today. Where else are you going to get the truth? CNN? MSNBC? THE NYTIMES? ABCCBSNBC?

Afghanistan Taliban leader was at Gitmo

Shouldn't we be asking why we're letting terrorists out of Gitmo and returning them to their homeland so they can resume their terroristic activities against us? Or maybe we determined that this guy is a moderate Taliban; one with which President Obama can make nice.

Right!

Rush made a profundity about "moderate terrorists" today. He said that a "moderate" terrorist is one that only cuts off half of his victim's head.

"Moderate terrorist!" Reminds you of Jimmy Carter's infamous statement: "They may be terrorists, but they're not corrupt!"

MSNBC poll: Obama earns 'F' on performance!

NO!!!! Say it ain't so! There must be some kind of horrendous mistake. President Obama is way too big to fail! How could it possibly be that he earned an 'F' in an MSNBC poll? And of all places to get such bad marks!

Still, here are the results;

I wonder if Chris Matthews still feels that thrill going up his leg?

Trickle-Down

Hat tip to Ron Dart for this one.

Essential Weekend Reads

Begin with the ever brilliant and witty Mark Steyn who wrote about why it's no big deal to Obama that global economies are melting down:

...and that was before Obama made clear that for him the economy takes a very distant back seat to the massive expansion of government it provides cover for. That's why he's indifferent to the plummeting Dow. The president has made a strategic calculation that, to advance his plans for socialized health care, "green energy" and a Big Government state, it's to his advantage for things to get worse. And, if things go from bad to worse in America, overseas they'll go from worse to total societal collapse. We've already seen changes of government in Iceland and Latvia, rioting in Greece and Bulgaria. The great destabilization is starting on the fringes of Europe and working its way to the Continent's center.
You mustn't miss the rest of Steyn's piece. His commentary on Obama's gifts to the British Prime Minister are priceless.

______

Russia Calls for Renewal of Global Disarmament Talks. Well, DUH! Why the hell wouldn't they? They know Obama will be more than happy to disarm America ostensibly because they trust that tyrants the world over would do the same thing. The key word is "ostensibly." Does Obama REALLY think they will also disarm or does he just he just want to reduce our military might? (exactly like he's destroying our economy!)

This is what happens when an abortion fanatic becomes president. Some Catholic bishops are looking seriously at shuttering all 624 Catholic hospitals in the United States if the so-called "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA) becomes law. Do you actually think the enlightened "pro-choice" people will care about this potential loss of health care? Not if it means their sacrosanct right to abortion proliferates.

Quote of the day

From the inimitably witty Ann Coulter:
"Fortunately, we have Keith Olbermann to point out that Rush Limbaugh did not accurately quote the preamble to the Constitution in his CPAC speech last weekend. I'm not sure what scam Olbermann imagined Rush was trying to put over on the American people by saying conservatives believed in the 'preamble to the Constitution' and then quoting words from the Declaration of Independence -- but Olbermann put an end to that cruel deception!"

Got Anxiety? Get God!

According to the Calgary Herald, a new study has been done producing evidence that religious brains are more calm in the face of anxiety:
The brains of religious people are calmer in the face of error and uncertainty than doubters, Canadian university researchers have found.

“This is the first set of studies connecting individual differences in religious conviction to basic (brain) processes,” say authors Michael Inzlicht and Ian McGregor, psychology professors at the University of Toronto and York University, respectively.

Compared to non-religious subjects, the highly religious had 33 per cent less activity in the anterior cingulated cortex, the part of our brain that regulates anxiety. Those certain of God’s existence had 45 per cent less activity in this region compared to those convinced that there is no God.

The religious people weren’t just calm, they were more accurate.

“The more participants were zealous, the fewer errors they made,” said the paper, Neural Markers of Religious Conviction, published in the March edition of the academic journal Psychological Science.

“We suggest that religious conviction buffers against anxiety by providing meaning,” said the authors.
What a timely study!

These days, anxiety of the severest magnitude is being generated at exponential rates and very few see things getting better any time soon. Where do you turn for some peace of mind? Big Govt? I don't think so. It's the current leadership who's promising worse things to come. How inspiring is that for your peace of mind?

There really is something to the above mentioned study. Believers innately know this and scoffers may scoff, but if and when things really get tough, even many scoffers come to grips with the probability of God's existence and hope He'll come to their aid. You've heard the axiom there are no atheists in a fox hole and sadly too many only seek God under duress or when every other option has played out. For many He is merely the God of dire straights.

For the sake of conjecture, let's say you believe in God but don't really have a relationship with Him. By that I mean you might not pray very often and maybe you never read the Bible. Furthermore, let's suppose things just might get worse for all of us here in the USA and around the world. After all, the writing does seem to be on the wall, doesn't it. (I'm not suggesting we're living in the end times, nor am I suggesting otherwise; I'm just looking at the calamity that is beginning to form around us and I see we're going to need all the help we can get, including help from God on a national and personal level.)

That being said, wouldn't it be wise to deepen whatever relationship you have with God right now and not wait until you're in that proverbial fox hole or worse?

Think of it in these terms: what if you're a parent with kids you'd love to spend more time with but they never come around; that is, unless they need your help. O' sure, most loving parents will want to help out their kids, but what if the kids treat their parents like crap? You might be less willing to come to their aid if they've stopped coming to visit or have been disrespectful or even abusive. There might be a time when the parent will refuse to help if the kids have shut the parents out of their lives.

Scarily, that could happen to us if we shut God out of our life, personally and/or nationally. Look at how the "powers that be" in this country have kicked God out of virtually every govt controlled institution. God and Jesus Christ have become virtual persona's non grata in this country. So why should He come to our aid when we have continually told Him to get lost?

It's not too late for us to turn back to God individually or nationally, but scripture warns us that there is going to be a time when we're not going to be able to find Him (Isa 55:6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.)

He's still out there, willing and able to help but for the asking.

About that loathsome anxiety which can lead to dispair, depression and so many other health problems, Jesus offered some very comforting advice in Mat 6:25-34;
Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Almost everyone has read or heard of the the 23'd Psalm. Last week a good friend of ours forwarded a line-by-line simplistic explanation of that short chapter written by King David. It's a very encouraging and uplifting piece I like to read every morning just as a reminder. Here it is:

To overcome your toughest obstacles remember Psalm 23 !

The Lord is my Shepherd = That's Relationship!

I shall not want = That's Supply!

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures = That's Rest!

He leadeth me beside the still waters = That's Refreshment!

He restoreth my soul = That's Healing!

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness = That's Guidance!

For His name sake = That's Purpose!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death = That's
Testing!

I will fear no evil = That's Protection!

For Thou art with me = That's Faithfulness!

Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me = That's Discipline!

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies =
That's Hope!

Thou anointest my head with oil = That's Consecration!

My cup runneth over = That's Abundance!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life =
That's Blessing !

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord = That's Security!

Forever = That's Eternity!

Time for a break from the political BS

You can only take so much crap from Washington DC and lately I've been obsessing on one of my very favorite jazz singers, Diana Krall. It was her sultry style that first got me, but the more I listened the more I became enthralled with her extemporaneous piano skills. We're talking twofer of the highest caliber here; maybe a threefer if you take into account that she's easy on the eyes. Give yourself a break from the horrendous daily news and take in this very nice presentation from one of the best contemporary jazz performers of our day. You can't not love this!

Rush Limbaugh MUST be silenced...NOW!

THAT'S what every Leftist in this country is thinking and actively working to achieve. It's the very reason you must go to C-SPAN and watch Rush's terrific speech which he gave Saturday afternoon.

This speech is good, folks and the Left will be ever more diligent in their effort to destroy Rush and his message. They can't handle the truth or ANY opposition.

Odd, isn't it that the purveyors of free speech can't tolerate purveyors of free speech?

The hypocrisy abounds! The Left continues to expose their hand and with every expose', they become more tyrannical because of the very fact that their arguments never hold up.

Paul Harvey, American Icon, Dead at 90

Beloved Radio Broadcaster Paul Harvey died this weekend in Phoenix, AZ, at age 90. What a guy!

I literally grew up listening to Paul Harvey. He was a quintessential all American icon in the genre of Norman Rockwell. What Rockwell could do with images, Harvey could deftfully do with verbiage, and what an artful wordsmith he was.

One of the most popular posts on this blog is one I did about Paul Harvey's Father's Day tributes titled, "What are Fathers made of?" It's one of America's favorites.

On a side note, I was out of town and far away from the Internet when I learned of Mr. Harvey's passing. I'm more than a bit surprised that his death didn't get more "air time" on TV and/or weekend radio. I hope it wasn't his mainstream (you could never call him right wing) conservatism that kept his passing off the airwaves.

The passing of Mr. Harvey marks the passing of an era in America that was unsurpassed in so many ways. His generation, that great generation, is rapidly diminishing before our eyes as is the greatness of this nation. In a way it is fitting that they not have to endure what this present generation will have wrought on this once great nation.

Paul Harvey, one of America's true legends, will be sorely missed.
