My Blogoversary, Among Other Things...
A year ago today, Uncle Walter (Cronkite) threw in the towel, journalistically speaking, and called it quits. I think he was just totally fed up with the fact that his MSM was losing it and seeing the monopoly was over, decided he had had enough. Why would I remember such trivia? Because it was the subject of my first entry into this blog on August 16, 2004. Happy blogoversary to me!
Non-bloggers may ask the philosophical question: why blog? Being a newsjunkie and someone who was born to be a news editor, for me, it's because I must.
Long ago (and not so far away, to borrow from Karen Carpenter), before the internet, it was a little more tedious for newsjunkies. There was talk radio, thankfully, but reconnoitering pertinent information required hours at the library in front of the periodical racks and long searches for the best newsstand in town.
It was expensive, too, buying all those magazines and newspapers or making copies at the library. I was an inveterate clipper. I gathered all sorts of information and mailed them each week to a friend who worked in a news bureau for a now defunct religious/news magazine. I loved it! It was the next best thing to being the news editor.
Then came the internet and each year more and more periodicals and news sources came online. It was and is newsjunkie heaven! It became my duty to make sure all my friends and family members got the latest worthy news items from me each and every day.
Within a very short amount of time, very few, if any of my email buds were actually paying attention to my news briefings, and it has been reported that many were deleting my emails before even opening them. So you can imagine my joy when a friend turned me on to blogging. Now I can give everybody the opportunity to not read my blog. It's a beautiful thing!
But seriously, this is a great outlet, as others who regularly do this, know. I'd like to thank both my readers for stopping by from time to time to check in on my blather. Be sure to come back again soon!
