Colin Powell more concerned with World Opinion than security
It never ceases to amaze me how so many smart guys can believe such foolishness. The most recent example is exhibited by Colin Powell who is saying that Guantanamo should be closed down, not tomorrow, but this afternoon. Why? Because, he thinks our utilization of Guantanamo as an off shore prison is problematic "in the way the world perceives America..."
Powell's solution is to bring the terrorists to the United States so that they can be under the constitution. That's right...he wants them to have constitutional rights!

"Guantanamo has become a major, major problem ... in the way the world perceives America and if it were up to me I would close Guantanamo not tomorrow but this afternoon ... and I would not let any of those people go. I would simply move them to the United States and put them into our federal legal system," Powell told NBC's Meet the Press.
"Essentially, we have shaken the belief the world had in America's justice system by keeping a place like Guantanamo open and creating things like the military commission. We don't need it and it is causing us far more damage than any good we get for it," he added.
The United States is holding about 380 foreign terrorism suspects at Guantanamo.
Rights groups and foreign governments have called for the prison to be closed, saying holding prisoners there for years without trial violated legal standards. But Washington says the prison is legal and necessary to hold dangerous individuals.
"I would get rid of Guantanamo and the military commission system and use established procedures in federal law," Powell said, saying some leaders around the world were using Guantanamo to hide their own misdeeds.
"It's a more equitable way, and more understandable in constitutional terms," he added.
Why are so many so concerned with world opinion? And why is it always a one way street? Is the rest of the world obsessed with what WE think? Are these so-called rights groups concerned with the really dispicable nations? No, it's always the global thinking appeasers and accomodaters in our own country who are so concerned with our international public image.
The concept that we must be concerned about world opinion is based on the premise of egalitarianism; a fancy word for collectivism. In other words, the United States should be more sensitive to the feelings of other nations. We should heed their criticism to show that we're no better than they are. Every nation is equal. Every philosophy has merit and we need to become more like lessor countries to show that we care and mean no harm, or so the thinking goes.
Yes I said lessor countries!
Instead of trying to get other nations to emulate the United States, those on the left want us to emulate lessor, less free and more socialistic countries. Sadly, there are far too many on the right side of the isle who want the same thing.
Which brings me to the Senate "Immigration" debacle of last week...
Those in favor of the failed bill wanted it passed post haste without debate. They knew what they were doing. They knew that the devilish details wouldn't cut it with informed voters.
Thanks to Big Talk Radio and Big Internet (and no thanks to the Old Media), we found out pretty quickly what the bill was all about; instant legalization of everyone now here illegally.
The point being that there are still plenty of Americans who won't lie down for politicos like Colin Powell and his left leaning cohorts who would foist their globalist, extra-constitutional agenda on us at the first opportunity.

To worry about what others think of us is submitting to a position of weakness. Don't think our enemies are unaware of this. What's so disconcerting is the number of people in positions of power who have forgotten that appeasing our enemies has never worked. Why do they think it will work now? Or do they really want it to work?
