Federal court upholds ‘ One State Under God ‘ in Texas Pledge of Allegiance


Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott prevailed in federal court Tuesday, Aug. 28, where a North Texas couple tried to prevent schoolchildren from reciting the Texas Pledge of Allegiance.

A federal district judge ruled against David Wallace Croft and his wife, Shannon, who sought a preliminary injunction because the Texas Legislature recently added the words “one state under God” to the state Pledge. Solicitor General Ted Cruz argued on the state’s behalf.

“With today’s ruling, a federal judge denied the plaintiffs’ attempt to prevent Texas schoolchildren from pledging their allegiance to ‘one state under God’ - just as they pledge to ‘one nation under God,’” Attorney General Abbott said. “The United States Supreme Court has repeatedly held patriotic acknowledgments of the Almighty such as these are completely consistent with the U.S. Constitution. Texans can rest assured that we will continue vigorously defending their children’s ability to recite the state Pledge of Allegiance each morning.”

The plaintiffs, both professed atheists, filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Their children are students in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District.

There is one word that I look for in all of this, and will highlight it in the next quote. If this word is included then I never understand why people have a problem with things. The word is “voluntary”.

The voluntary, teacher-led recitation of the Texas Pledge typically follows the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms across the state. According to the state’s brief, the Legislature added the words “one state under God” to acknowledge the tradition and religious heritage inherent in America’s founding.

Voluntary means that you can include or exclude yourself from participation. It is your choice. The government is not forcing anything on you. I’m sure this is all very aggrevating to secularists.

If you're a thinker or somewhat astute at observing people and their mannerisms you've probably taken notice when someone talks about giving more than 100%. That's when my B.S. detector starts going off.

You know the drill...it's usually in some mundane meeting at work or some charity drive and the "call to arms" speaker du jour attempts to rally the troops by encouraging everyone to give 110% in order to meet some arbitrary goal (don't you just hate meetings?). No one in the room is going to break it to the so-called motivator that 100% is what it is...anything beyond 100% is unachievable, at least in this realm.

Today I received the quintessential answer to the "more than 100%" conundrum in an email from a trusted friend who runs the BrainSizzle blog. I didn't even have to Snopes it; it was that good!

The Poor in America

Prepare yourself to be hearing how poverty stricken the U.S.A. is. The leftist media is going to make hay over the census report on poverty today, so hold on tight and get ready to hear how horrific things are in this country.

Never mind Robert Rector's piece that points out just how well our "poor" have it in this country. Don't get me wrong...there are really poor people in the U.S. and in every other country and no one is making light of that. Rector's only point is that the poor in the U.S. can't be compared to the poor in nations that are really, really poor.

That being said, there are politicians, (mostly on the left) who would have you believe that our poor are among the poorest of them all. The obvious reason being is so the pandering politicians (mostly on the left) can proceed to buy the votes of those who are probably already on one or more gov't doles by promising even more gov't handouts.

Rector's column rightly points out how well the poor have it in this country. Read the piece. Our "poor" are wealthy compared to the desolate masses living in thugocracies and communist dictatorships around the world.

By the way, how are those Cubans doing down there, Michael Moore? Best health care in the world? Yeah, right!

Mark Levin: Today's "MUST HEAR!"


It's really a shame if you're not listening to the Mark Levin Show each and every day, but today's show was exceptional in every respect and you really owe it to yourself to listen to both hours. Just go to his above linked site and explore every pixel of it. Levin is awesome!

He has an excellent expose' on NBC's main man; the guy Mark refers to as Keith Overbite. Be sure to check it out. It's more of an embarrassment to NBC than it is to "Overbite."

Regarding the Gonzales exit today, Levin rightly asked, "Where's La Raza and where's LULAC? Aren't they supposed to be fighting for Latinos? Isn't Gonzales a Latino? Why aren't they in his corner and where have they been all along in his fight with the harassing left wing media and the left wing congress? Do you think, maybe, it might have something to do with the fact that these organizations are nothing more than left wing lap dogs? They care nothing about Latinos unless they are leftist Latinos just as the National Organization for Women cared nothing about the women who were groped, assaulted and/or raped by Bill Clinton. The NOW gang was silent throughout the entire Clinton ordeal and they remain silent about his established history of abuse of women!

Where are these so-called "well meaning" special interest groups when it comes to sticking up with those on the right side of the isle?

Sort of puts their idealism into perspective, doesn't it? Sort of makes them out to be leftist shams, doesn't it?

Blogs Tracking Pedophiles

Texas Fred is one of the key bloggers involved in keeping tabs on pedophiles:
After a self-proclaimed pedophile was hounded out of Southern California over the weekend, bloggers sent up a nationwide call Sunday for help tracking his movements.

Jack McClellan, previously from the Snohomish County town of Arlington, in recent months had been living out of his car in Southern California. A judge there on Friday permanently barred him from going within 30 feet of places where children gather.

“I have to leave the state, really. I can’t live here under this Orwellian protocol,” Jack McClellan told television station KABC for a report that aired Sunday. “It’s nightmarish.”

McClellan did not say where he planned to go, and he did not immediately return a message left on his cell phone by The Associated Press.

Do you live in a Sanctuary City?

Have you wondered whether or not your city is a safe sanctuary for illegal aliens? Thanks to the OHIO JOBS & JUSTICE PAC, here's a list of Sanctuary cities. I can't believe there are so many.

Human Events has a good piece on Restoring the Rule of Law: Eliminating Sanctuary Cities. Even if you don't live a sanctuary city, you'll want to read this.

We can't continue as a country without respect to the rule of law. If there are 12 to 20 million (and I firmly believe this estimate is intentionally low) illegals living with contempt for the rule of law and dozens of municipalities welcome and encourage them, where is this country going?
Increasingly it seems Americans in different parts of the country have opened their morning newspaper or turned on the TV and learned about an act of violence carried out by someone who is living in this country illegally. Alarmingly, many of these individuals have had previous contact with local law enforcement officials. Such is the case in Newark, New Jersey, where recently three innocent young people were tragically murdered. In the aftermath of this tragedy, we learned that one of the suspects -- an illegal immigrant -- was previously arrested on multiple occasions and, rather than being deported, was set free only to victimize again.

The situation in Newark didn’t happen in a vacuum. It isn’t new, nor is it relegated to just this one community. An alarming number of cities and towns throughout this nation have similar sanctuary policies on the books -- including both Minneapolis and St. Paul in my home state of Minnesota. In these cities, local law enforcement officials are barred from so much as inquiring about a suspect’s immigration status and passing along their concerns to federal authorities for follow up action. The rationale for this practice is as antiquated as the practice itself. Yes, it is important to maintain good relations between immigrant communities and local law enforcement, but we must not hide behind that as an excuse for letting lawbreakers off the hook. In a post 9/11 world, the evidence has shown the consequences of sanctuary city policies can reach beyond just one community. Take for example Mohammed Atta, leader of the 9/11 hijackers. In 2001, he was stopped and ticketed for driving without a license in Florida. His visa was expired and yet he was simply allowed to continue on his way.

So why are cities allowed to place a gag order on their law enforcement officers? It’s simple: by exploiting a loophole in Sec. 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. While the law requires cooperation with federal officials on immigration matters, sanctuary cities get around it by employing a “don’t ask, don’t tell” strategy, with sometimes devastating consequences.
Be sure to read the entire piece. This trend is destroying the rule of law, and causing divisiveness with law abiding citizens, not to mention the contempt it foments for arrogant politicians and judges who take law into their own hands.

Gonzales quits: My Two Bits Worth

So everyone is now aware that Attorney General Gonzales has resigned and many on the right side of the isle aren't exactly upset about his departure. Was he just too nice a guy to put up with the leftist jackals? He was always on the defensive when he needed to be in their face. He needed to be more like Karl Rove.

This entire brouhaha could have been alleviated had Gonzales or the president just come out, early on, and simply stated that U.S. Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president. They are political appointments and the president can remove them at will for whatever reason he wishes. Period! President Clinton fired 93 U.S. Attorneys. President Bush fired 7 or 8.

It seems to me that Gonzales got into hot water by trying to make nice with people who had every intention of destroying him and as many others as possible in the administration. Co-operation, non-partisanship...the "new tone," remember? It's a failed policy. You can't play nice with ruthless snakes who will bite you when you least expect it.

You can't get along with your enemies. You don't co-operate with them. You confront them. You fight them. Partisanship is a good thing. Non-partisanship means only one thing. It means the right must concede to the left.

Gonzales is a nice guy. He's probably a good guy, but he co-operated with the leftists and they had him for breakfast this morning.

Will they stop with Gonzales? On the contrary. His resignation only encourages them. Who's next?

Intelligence chief sees border as terrorist entryway

From the El Paso Times:
The nation's top intelligence official is concerned that terrorist groups such as al-Qaida, in the midst of regrouping and marshaling new recruits, are paying more attention to the Southwest border as they look for ways to enter the United States -- where their goal is to cause "mass casualties."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has intercepted 178 Iraqis seeking asylum by crossing the Southwestern border so far this year, nearly triple the 60 captured in 2006, according to figures from the office of National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell. None of those Iraqis have been linked to terrorist organizations.

McConnell, the member of the president's Cabinet who oversees all 16 of the nation's intelligence agencies, points to the recent declassified intelligence summary stating that al-Qaida is regrouping in the mountainous border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"You've got committed leadership. You've got a place to train. They've got trainers, and they've got recruits," McConnell said last week in an exclusive interview with the El Paso Times after his talk at the Border Security Conference.
Huh? Why is it, again, we're not working around the clock on a fence?

Where's the fence?

Rep. Duncan Hunter put President Bush on the spot by asking, "Where's the fence?"
With only a small fraction of the border fence between the U.S. and Mexico complete, California congressman and Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter is warning President Bush the construction mandated by the Secure Fence Act is falling drastically behind schedule.

"Unless construction is promptly accelerated," Hunter wrote in a letter to Bush, "deadlines for the completion of fencing will not be met."
President Bush has a lot of pluses and a lot of minuses. Illegal immigration and border insecurity are among his most obvious minuses.
The Bush administration's unwillingness to build a border fence, even when mandated by a law Bush signed as recently as Oct. 26, 2006, questions the credibility of Bush's denial, especially when the border with Mexico remains wide open today, nearly six years since the Bush administration declared war on terrorism.

Hunter's letter points out the Secure Fence Act calls for completing 392 miles of fencing from Calexico, Calif., to Douglas, Ariz., by May 30, 2008.

Additionally, the act mandates 30 miles of fencing be completed in the Laredo, Texas, sector by Dec. 31, 2008.
Be sure to read the entire piece at the above link. The fact that the fence has been and is such low priority for this administration is a major point of contention for otherwise supporters of President Bush.

Zero Tolerance Run Amok

These government indoctrination centers, which some people call public schools, have become totally bereft of common sense. It's completely gone! Wisdom and good judgement were duly dismissed years ago when God was thrown of school.

Clouds, Computer Models and Global Warming

According to a piece written by Alan Caruba in The New Media Journal, clouds are not taken into consideration when the computer models forecast warming trends:
There’s a reason why one should be extremely wary of the computer models that are cited by the endless doomsday predictions of Al Gore, the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change, and all the other advocates of “global warming.”

The reason is clouds. Computer models simply cannot provide for the constant variability of clouds, so they ignore them.

In a July issue of The Economist there was an article, “Grey-Sky thinking” subtitled, “Without understanding clouds, understanding the climate is hard. And clouds are the least understood part of the atmosphere.” Since the increasingly rabid claims of Earth’s destruction from rising temperatures depend on computer modeling, how can they be regarded as accurate if they must largely exempt or deliberately manipulate the impact of clouds?

How can you make predictions, whether it’s a week or a decade from now, if you haven’t a clue why clouds do what they do?
That's interesting and it's not something I've ever heard or read before. You would think that all variables would be taken into consideration when forecasting warming or cooling trends. If they can't be figured in then you would think an asterisk noting this would appear in every prediction or study.
Tim Garrett, a research meteorologist at the University of Utah, with refreshing candor has said, “We really do not know what’s going on. There are so many basic unanswered questions on how they (clouds) work.” And that is never mentioned in the great “global warming” debate, one we are continuously told is “decided” and upon which there is a vast scientific “consensus.”

This is particularly significant because clouds act to both cool and warm the Earth. It is widely believed that high clouds can reflect solar radiation away from the planet, but they can also serve to trap heat in the atmosphere. New studies, however, have given some cause to reconsider this. Moreover, cloud droplets can last for less than a second while whole clouds can live out their lives in minutes or days. There is no way to integrate such massive, constant change into a computer model that divides the world into boxes up to sixty miles on a side, so they mostly do not.

This is why there are two new missions by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration involving highly sophisticated devices to measure and study the actions of clouds. This is also why, up to now, the computer models on which “global warming” claims have been made have actually been tweaked, adjusted, manipulated—take your choice of terms—to factor in the mystery of clouds.

How wide is the computer modeling gap when it comes to predicting the weather? The Economist reported that, “In a recent paper in Climate Dynamics, Mark Webb of Britain’s Hadley Centre for Climate Change and his colleagues reported that clouds account for 66% of the differences between members of one important group of models and for 85% of them in another group.” Clouds simply defy the logarithms of computer modelers.

In short, “Too much still remains unknown about the physical mechanisms that determine cloud behavior,” said The Economist.
When organizations and government agencies (like the U.N., the Evironmental Protection Agency and so many others), who have the ability to change the way we live our lives, use incomplete and unsubstantiated data such as these computer models provide, it borders on fraud.

Whatever computers spit out depends on what data is entered; garbage in, garbage out. Computer models may be compared to lie detectors. They are unreliable. Lie detectors can't be used in a court of law and neither should computer models be used to force change upon the way we live or how we are penalized and taxed because of the size of our "carbon footprint."

In response to the EU's desire that Texas get rid of the death penalty, Robert Black, spokesman for Texas Governor Rick Perry, said this:

In other words, mind your own damn business!

On Tuesday the EU voiced "great regret" at Wednesday's impending 400th execution in Texas since the death penalty was restored in 1976 and urged the United States as a whole to stop all imminent judicial killings.

"The European Union strongly urges (Texas) Governor Rick Perry to exercise all powers vested in his office to halt all upcoming executions and to consider the introduction of a moratorium in the State of Texas," the EU's current Portuguese presidency said in a statement.

Texas is gearing up to execute murderer Ray Conner on Wednesday.

The "Media Mob"

James Lewis over at the American Thinker wrote a thorough piece on the Old Media titled, The Media Mob. It was Karl Rove who coined that term when he announced he was leaving his job at the White House. Apparently there were some in the media who took offense at being referred to as a 'mob.'

Are You Clickin' Your Life Away?


It's not that I'm not a big Adam Sandler fan; in fact I've always liked his work, but I think I've only seen one or two of his movies. Tonight our daughter wanted us to watch Click and so we did.

I vaguely remember when this movie came out and I may have even seen the trailer. The only thing I remember is that this must be some whacked out movie about some dude with a remote control obsession.

It's way more than that. This is one of those movies I never would have gone to see or rented, but my daughter (you know how kids are....they'll watch anything) saw it and thought we would appreciate it.

We did!

This is really a MUST SEE for everyone caught up in the rat race...and who isn't?

Casting is excellent. Christopher Walken must be a method actor as all of his lines are delivered as only he could deliver them in his role.

Please do yourselves a favor and rent this movie. Then think about what you just saw and do a little re-evaluating. It's not a preachy movie but it's thought provoking.

What are The Three Amigos up to?

Like I said, marginalization is the very first method of dealing with anyone who asks about this. Even the president stoops to this unsavory methodology. When President Bush won't directly deny plans for a North American Union, it's reminiscent of the recent amnesty bill that went down in flames. Hopefully, this North American nonsense will go down in flames as well. The sooner, the better.

Garofalo to be on "24"


Janeane Garofalo is going to be a regular on the upcoming season of "24", and some fans are going ballistic. What's the big deal? She's an actor...this is what she does best. She was excellent on The Larry Sanders Show. I don't see what her politics has to do with any stint she's going to have on "24". After all, Kiefer Sutherland is probably as liberal as Garofalo and I can't think of a better Jack Bauer.

Look at it this way; the producers of "24" are largely conservative and they don't have a problem hiring talented people who may happen to have vastly different political beliefs, whereas many in Hollywood may avoid and even blacklist certain conservatives from working. Where's the intolerance? Doesn't seem to be any on the "24" set.

Democrat Congress at Historic Lows

A new Gallup poll shows that Congressional approval is at historic lows...18% to be exact.

If you happen to read the linked article you may find it interesting that the 18% figure is downplayed while the President's 32% approval rating is said to be much lower than it should be. Then again, this is a Gallup poll.

Zogby gives Congress a 15% approval rating.

Can you imagine the media play this would be getting if Congress had a republican majority?

Cool It!


There's a new book I'm plugging on the right side of this blog titled, Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming by Bjorn Lomborg. I haven't read it as it won't be available until September 4th, but I've been hearing good things about it. Among them is the review by Michael Crichton which I'm posting in its entirety:

Sounds like the book takes a reasoned approach to global warming and climate change and the REAL problems we may be facing.

Speaking for myself and knowing that I would be among those who would be labeled a "global warming or climate change denier," let me say this: I don't deny for a minute that climate changes are taking place and as an inveterate Bible reader I can safely surmise that even greater climate changes are going to take place. That being said, I'm pretty sure it's not my Ford F-150 Pick-up or the rest of the Texas gas guzzling SUV's that will be causing those changes.

That pesky Bible says there will be droughts, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, wars and rumors of wars, but danged if it doesn't mention anything about SUV's and carbon footprints. It does say that when people begin to worship the creation instead of the creator that all common sense goes out the window and those who claim to possess all wisdom are nothing more than fools. But, I digress.

Pre-order Cool It today so you can have some intelligent and reasoned global warming ammo.

Few Conservatives Come to Savage's Aid

Michael Medved is among the very few talk show hosts who have gone to bat for the embattled Michael Savage.

Medved said it best:
No, I’ve never been a citizen of “The Savage Nation,” and I hardly count as an ardent fan of the bombastic, simplistic, perpetually enraged sort of talk radio exemplified by Michael Savage.

But regardless of my disagreements with the man’s style and substance, he’s absolutely right to stand up to bullying and intimidation by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Whenever a governmental official attempts to silence a journalist or commentator, then all those committed to free speech – whether conservatives, moderates or liberals – ought to protest vigorously against this clear-cut abuse of authority.

Medved is absolutely right and I hate it that more conservatives didn't go to bat for and with Savage, regardless of his obnoxious on-air style.

Talk show hosts rarely mention competing talk show hosts, for obvious reasons, but you gotta tip your hat to those who do when one of them is under attack.

Laura Ingraham has mentioned Savage's plight several times on her show this week and she may have even ventured to San Francisco to get even closer to the fight. Way to go Laura!

Like I said a couple of days ago, Michael Savage isn't exactly the shining city on the hill when it comes to conservative talk radio, but if the intolerant leftists succeed in taking him off the air, it will only encourage them to silence the next in line with whom they cannot tolerate.

Whatever happened to diversity and tolerance?

Kudos to the Big 'BAP!


WBAP, the blow torch of the southwest, made a huge announcement last night prior to Hannity's Freedom Concert. Beginning on this coming Monday, the Big 'BAP will start airing their Talk Show lineup LIVE! No hour delay!

I know, for those of you with a life, you're asking, "so what?" Well when you're a news and information junkie you want to hear Rush, Hannity and Mark Levin live, especially when news is breaking.

I can't tell you how many times I've emailed the folks at WBAP to register my disapproval of the delayed shows for the last 15(?) years. I guess there were a few others who were doing the same thing.

Thank you, programing people! This was a great move!

San Francisco fails in attack on Michael Savage

Syndicated talk radio host, Michael Savage, has won his fight with the city of San Francisco.

I'm wondering if he's wondering why more people and other talk show hosts didn't rush (no pun intended) to his defense in his battle with the City by the Bay. Here's why...it's because he's a jerk and a lousy example of a conservative talk show host.

That being said, he has every right to be a jerk, just as Don Imus, Katie Couric, Keith Olbermann and Howard Stern have every right to be jerks. Even though no one has a right to not be offended, we all have a right to be a jerk. But if you're going to be a jerk, you have to realize there's a price you're going to have to pay.

As a small businessman, allow me to pass on a lesson to the paying public. Jerks and a**holes always have to pay more (in one way or another) and people aren't going to come to their aid nearly as quickly as they will for someone likeable. Michael Savage is not likeable, regardless of his politics. He comes across as a bitter, angry, hateful and vindictive individual. People who may side with him politically on some or even many issues, may refuse to support him because of his obnoxious demeanor.

Contrast that with other conservatives who are upbeat and civil. Michael Savage is not civil and he deals in hyperbole and half-truths. That's why I quit listening to him months ago. I fact-checked him on a quote he referenced and it was not factual. When I emailed him to let him know of the error, I never heard back from him, nor did he correct the error.

Everyone makes mistakes, but when they are pointed out to you and your disregard them, it just doesn't cut it.

Still, it's too bad more people didn't rush to Savage's aid. Eventually the left is coming after every conservative talk show host and if they/we don't hang together, we most definitely will all hang separately. Didn't one of our founding Dads say something along those lines?

If it's Good for America, it's Bad for Democrats

Rush, of course, has been saying this for years, and not to take away from Dennis Prager, because he has a brilliantly illustrative piece today on the hapless democrats titled If It's Bad for America, It's Good for Democrats. Can you imagine a time in history that such could be possible? How could a political party even exist that wants America to lose an ongoing war?

One needs to digest Prager's entire column, but I can't resist previewing a few paragraphs for you:
Name almost any subject, and this unhealthy pattern can be discerned.

If African Americans come to believe that America is a land of opportunity in which racism has been largely conquered, it would be catastrophic for the Democrats. The day that most black Americans see America in positive terms will be the day Democrats lose any hope of winning a national election. Whatever one believes about the extent of racism in America, one cannot deny that the Democrats need black Americans to feel victimized by racism. Contented black Americans spell disaster for the Democratic Party.

If women marry, it is bad for the Democratic Party. Single women are an essential component of any Democratic victory. Unmarried women voted for Kerry by a 25-point margin (62 percent to 37 percent), while married women voted for President Bush by an 11-point margin (55 percent to 44 percent). According to a pro-Democrat website, The Emerging Democratic Majority, "the 25-point margin Kerry posted among unmarried women represented one of the high water marks for the Senator among all demographic groups."

After women marry, they are more likely to abandon leftist views and to vote Republican. And if they then have children, they will vote Republican in even more lopsided numbers. The bottom line is that when Americans marry, it is bad for the Democratic Party; when they marry and make families, it is disastrous for the party.

If immigrants assimilate, it is not good for Democrats. The Democratic Party has invested in Latino separatism. The more that Hispanic immigrants come to feel fully American, the less likely they are to vote Democrat. The liberal notion of multiculturalism helps Democrats, while adoption of the American ideal of e pluribus unum (out of many, one) helps Republicans. That is one reason Democrats support bilingual education -- it hurts Hispanic children, but it keeps them from full assimilation -- and oppose making English America's official language.

There's much more, and it begs your attenton. The next election may very well be one of the most important in the history of our country.

The dems have come to the point that they're not even hiding their leftist agenda and unfortunately, those who aren't paying attention may not even care. Those of us who DO care have a responsibility to spread the word that the worst thing that could happen to this country is to elect a passel of socialists who succeed when America fails.

Merv Griffin...RIP

The older crowd were big fans of Merv Griffin when I was a kid...way older...like my parent's age. But because I was an incurably inveterate talk show junkie while still in diapers, I too, was one of his fans and life-long admirers. He was one of the good guys...smart, interesting, talented and a brilliant businessman.

He'd been suffering from prostate cancer for awhile and he died yesterday. Here's a good article about his life and times.

Long time associate of Merv Griffin, Pat Sajak has some glowing things to say about one of the legends of television. If you ever followed his life or career or have any interest in success stories, check out his obit. He was a friend of at least one president and one of Donald Trump's toughest business rivals.

He'll be missed!

Steyn: A bad case of malignant narcissism


Whether or not 1998 was the hottest year ever came up a couple of days ago thanks to
the keen observations of Steve McIntyre of climateaudit.com who duly notified NASA of their atmospheric anomaly.

The brilliantly inimitable Mark Steyn waxes eloquent on the global warming purveyors and various other malcontents in his most recent column:

Something rather odd happened the other day. If you go to NASA's Web site and look at the "U.S. surface air temperature" rankings for the lower 48 states, you might notice that something has changed.

Then again, you might not. They're not issuing any press releases about it. But they have quietly revised their All-Time Hit Parade for U.S. temperatures. The "hottest year on record" is no longer 1998, but 1934. Another alleged swelterer, the year 2001, has now dropped out of the Top 10 altogether, and most of the rest of the 21st century – 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 – plummeted even lower down the Hot 100. In fact, every supposedly hot year from the Nineties and this decade has had its temperature rating reduced. Four of America's Top 10 hottest years turn out to be from the 1930s, that notorious decade when we all drove around in huge SUVs with the air-conditioning on full-blast. If climate change is, as Al Gore says, the most important issue anyone's ever faced in the history of anything ever, then Franklin Roosevelt didn't have a word to say about it.

And yet we survived.

Christianity Bad/ Islam Good


Doug Giles' latest column is today's must read. It's titled, Christianity Sucks and Islam is Awesome? and it's available at Townhall.com. I'm a pretty regular reader of Giles' columns and I really think this is one of his best.

Sadly, he's right on when he characterizes secularists and the dinosaur media as kissing up to radical Islam or at least giving them a pass, while demonizing Christians and Christianity:
Man, don’t cha love how mainstream media and their soft-brain disciples make Christians out to be fish-stickered, bug-eyed equals to incensed Islam? If you were to accept as true what some atheists, secularists and prattling gay activists say about Christians, you’d think the church is chomping at the bit to chop off some heads of unbelievers, glory to Gawd!

Yep, if you were to believe the barf belched out by the BS brokers on the Left, you’d stagger away Kool Aid drunk with the belief that there is little disparity between conservative Christians and militant Muslims.

As a matter of fact, you probably would be bamboozled into believing that Islam is a peaceful, Little House on the Prairie religion being temporarily hijacked by jihadist renegades, and Christianity . . . Christianity is the real charity-vacant, vicious cult that’s vying for the opportunity to seize the whip and whip us good.

I'm sure there are a lot of so-called religious people who don't cotton to Giles' colorfully blunt style of writing, but I think his tone is refreshing. He's got the attitude of a fighter and if there's one thing this world desperately needs, it's an army of fighting Christians (Soldiers, as it were!) who legitimately exemplify the real religion of peace by living it...not just preaching it!

Corner cowering Christians, as never before, need to stand up and let themselves be seen and heard, but not like some embarrassingly shameful televangelists who do more damage to Christianity than anything else. You know the type.

Giles refers to and quotes from Robert Spencer's new book, Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is and Islam Isn't. Here are a few points Spencer points out in his book:

• The Koran does not invite interpretation, and Muslim leaders refuse to discuss how to fit their beliefs into modern society.

• Political differences and unwanted international interference are not, in fact, the cause of the turmoil in Iraq and Middle Eastern antagonism towards the west.

• The most determined enemies of western civilization may not be the jihadists at all, but the leftists who fear their churchgoing neighbors more than Islamic terrorists.

1998 Hottest Year Ever...NOT!

Lots of people have done their homework on this one and have found NASA culpable in promoting '98 as the record breaking hottest year. It's not true! 1934 was the hottest year. In fact, the three hottest years all happened prior to WWII.

This is just one more fact that takes credibility away from the global warming believers.

Wake Up Call from Luke AFB, AZ


I got this from my high school buddy who lives in Phoenix. Phoenix is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the country. Seems that there are always small minded people who decide to move near an airport or Air Force Base and quickly forget that the AFB and/or airport has been there many more years than the recent homeowner. Here's a poignant tale of one such person who is/was totally out of touch:
Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by
civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its
planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were.

A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the
back. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote
the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed
his/her day at the mall. When that individual read the response from a
Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:

"Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the
morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 a.m., a tight
formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall,
continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our
good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call,
or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early bird
special? Any response would be appreciated."

The response:

Regarding "A wake-up call from Luke's jets" (Letters, Thursday): On June
15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four-ship flyby of F-16s
from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the
grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques.

Capt. Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at
Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day. At
9 a.m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial
Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend.

Based on the letter writer's recount of the flyby, and because of the
jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of
taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave
them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States
and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the
sacrifices they have endured. A four-ship flyby is a display of respect
the Air Force pays to those who give their lives in defense of freedom.
We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15
what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay
their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, "Whom do we thank for the morning air show?"
The 56th Fighter Wing will call for you, and forward your thanks to the
widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was
in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their
lives.

If you don't buy into Gore's rhetoric, you're a polluting manipulator.

It's been decided. If you don't agree with Al Gore's global warming scenario (oops, it's now global climate change because of the record breaking low temperature this summer around the world) then you're a polluting manipulator who is probably the recipient Big Money from Big Oil.

Climate change? Isn't the climate always changing? Has the climate or world temperature ever been stagnant? And by the way, what IS the global median temperature we need to be trying to achieve with our purchased carbon credits?

Here's Gore's latest edict:

"There has been an organized campaign, financed to the tune of about $10 million a year from some of the largest carbon polluters, to create the impression that there is disagreement in the scientific community," Gore said at a forum in Singapore. "In actuality, there is very little disagreement."

Gore likened the campaign to the millions of dollars spent by U.S. tobacco companies years ago on creating the appearance of scientific debate on smoking's harmful effects.

"This is one of the strongest of scientific consensus views in the history of science," Gore said. "We live in a world where what used to be called propaganda now has a major role to play in shaping public opinion."

After the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made up of the world's top climate scientists, released a report in February that warned that the cause of global warming is "very likely" man-made, "the deniers offered a bounty of $10,000 for each article disputing the consensus that people could crank out and get published somewhere," Gore said.

"They're trying to manipulate opinion and they are taking us for fools," he said.

He said Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest publicly traded oil company, is one of the major fuel companies involved in trying to mislead the public about global warming.
While Gore demonizes Big Oil and Big Tobacco, he correctly assumes that most people will have forgotten or may have never known that the Gore family made one of their fortunes on the back of Big Oil and Big Tobacco.

What a hypocrite! We're supposed to believe what this charlatan wants to foist upon the world?

What about the folks who go along with his trumped up bogus rhetoric?

One of the least credible and most corrupt institutions in the world which parrots Gore's agenda is the United Nations. The whole purpose of the U.N. is to redistribute the wealth of productive, freedom loving, capitalist nations (read, the United States of America and western civilization in general) to third and fourth world dictatorships and thugocracies who can only function by plundering the wealth of others.

It's a fairly simple rule of thumb. You can always judge a person by their friends and associates. Who are Gore's friends and associates and who is it that embraces his agenda?

They are the dems. They are the jovial and fun loving Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer. They are the lovely and gracious Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. They are the lapdog mainstream media; academia; the extreme left and socialists around the world.

They are the ones who would like to turn over our foreign policy and sovereignty to the inept and corrupt United Nations. They are the ones who look to International Law in lieu of our constitution. They are the ones who would like to silence their critics. They are the ones who espouse tolerance and diversity but are vehemently intolerant of those with whom they disagree They are the ones who are antithetical to nearly every good thing this country was founded upon. They are the ones who want to remove God from every American institution. They are the ones who overlook stated constitutional rights only to invent new rights, like abortion, or rather, women's health issues. They are the ones who worship the creation (rather than the Creator) in their faith-based religion of environmentalism.

In so doing they've thumbed their arrogant noses at God and have become colossal fools, bereft of common sense.

Russia, the U.S. and North Pole

Accuracy in Media has an important piece at their site which needs our attention. The title of it is The North Pole is Ours, Not Russia's.

Last week, Russia claimed ownership of the North Pole because they may or may not have placed a Russian flag on the ocean floor somewhere under the North Pole. As the above linked article points out, and the reader probably remembers, that it was the United States of America who first traveled beneath the North Pole via submarine.

A problem arises now within the State Department and the U.N., if in fact there is trouble on the horizon with Russia's "claim" on the North Pole.

Some within our State Department think that the best way to alleviate any possible dilemma between Russia and the U.S. is to fast tract the ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) which would give authority over the oceans and ocean floors to the U.N.

That would not be a good thing!

HOUSTON - Glenn McDuffie has claimed for years that he was the sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square in Life magazine's iconic photograph of the day World War II ended.

If anyone just looked hard enough, he said, they would see that it was him in the shot.

Houston Police Department forensic artist Lois Gibson took up the challenge. And after what she called a detailed investigation, Gibson said she has concluded that McDuffie, 80, is the man in Alfred Eisenstaedt's Aug. 14, 1945 image.
So who's the babe?

Reject Murdoch, but seek out fascist thugs


Don't they realize how foolish they look when they treat American capitalists like the enemy and treat the enemies like friends? Now Sen. Edwards is urging fellow Dems to reject Murdoch's money. They've already rejected FoxNews, but they will gladly talk to third world thugs and dictators.

When you stop and think about it, it makes perfect sense. The enemies of this country would never ask the dems difficult questions since they are on the same political side of the isle. FoxNews, on the other hand, might be mean-spirited enough to ask them about how they would go about winning the war on international terrorism. How despotic is that?

Blue Star Deli Update


I was able to have lunch at the Blue Star Deli today and it was nummy as usual. I'd love to have one of their cheese burgers but I can't keep from ordering the Reuben. Anyway, business could have been better.

For those of you in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area who can get over to North Dallas, make it a point to patronize the good folks at the Blue Star Deli. Good food, good prices and good people! What else is there?

Some good news out of Mexico


Here's some good news that may lend to the possibility that a certain amount of reason may still exist in the Mexican political machine. Apparently celebrity bounty hunter Dog Chapman is no longer "wanted" by the Mexican police for the alleged kidnapping of serial rapist, Andrew Luster, heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune.

Who knows how these things transpire, but it's a good thing that Chapman isn't going to be extradited to some bogus court in Mexico.

Cox & Forkum aptly portray the tough talking senator who may be lacking in the wisdom department. Yesterday he boldly claimed he would invade Pakistan to ferret out Osama and today he announced to our enemies he would rule out the use of nukes.

I don't think I want this guy to be Commander in Chief.
