Democrat Gov's Declare Border Emergency
Dem. Governor, Janet Napolitano and Dem. Governor, Bill Richardson have both declared a state of emergency on the borders of Arizona and New Mexico, respectively. Hmmmm, let's see, California and Texas also border Mexico and they, too, have serious illegal immigration problems; maybe even worse, so why aren't those governors reacting in similar fashion? Oh, that's right; they're republicans and the repubs haven't yet thought it necessary to deal with our border problem.
The dems may be disingenuous, but not to the casual observer. Even though the above mentioned govs have done everything in their power to encourage illegal immigration in the past, they both have political aspirations. Napolitano is up for reelection and Richardson may have his eyes set on Washington. They are fully aware of what the voters want, and they are capitalizing on it. Dems, 1; Repubs, 0.
Politics aside, I'm happy about the attention this will garner. It's now up to the people to hold these liberal governors' feet to the fire so that their policies from here forward are consistant with their declared emergency.
Political expediency is one thing for dems, but they may soon realize they have stepped in it. It's a gamble for them to lean to the right and not do the right thing. So far they've ventured toward the right and now it's up to the voters to make sure they follow through in subsequent policies.
Now, what are Republican Governors Perry and Schwarzenegger going to do about their border problems?
